Farm Establishment per acre
cost of establishing an acre of a Mango farm is about six hundred GH cedis (¢600) and the activities include Slash and Burn, Collecting of Shrubs,
Stumping, Ploughing 1 and 2, Seedlings, Lining and Pegging, Carting,
NB. This cost of land does not include the cost of documentation fees.
FMSL CHARGES A 20% FEE OF TOTAL COST OF THE FARM ESTABLISHMENT
an acre of a Mango farm per year is about two hundred and eighty
thousand Ghana cedis (GH¢ 280) and the activities include, Pruning per acre,
spraying per acre, weeding per acre, fertilizer/chemical application,
creating fire belt (Nov/Dec)
Fifty Ghana cedis (GH¢ 50) per month for every 10 acres
of land, amounting to Six hundred Ghana cedis (GH¢ 600) per year has to be paid.
A management fee of one thousand five hundred Ghana cedis (GH¢150) per every ten(10) acres per year are applied
OTHER FARMING OPPOURTUNITIES
There are also other farming opportunities that will enable a mango farmer, make additional revenue by inter cropping with other crops and these are crops such as Maize, Pepper , Tomatoes, Okra, Watermelon. etc
The financial reward of inter cropping widens the farmer's options of generating additional income that helps to maintain the mango farm with very little extra money.
For example the annual expenditure for maize cultivation is about GH¢ 250 per acre and this is the the amount spent on seeds, planting, weeding, ploughing, fertilizer application, harvesting , de- husking, and shelling.
